Ivan Wong
As a Year Two Global Business student at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, I have a passion for global interactions, service leadership, and being in a competitive community to motivate myself to a higher level. Being a curious person by nature, I enjoy being exposed to a wide variety of business cases, and working with different teams on comprehensive recommendations to solve problems. In April this year, I worked s a real-time message composer and session summary writer at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2014.
Besides studying business, I enjoy understanding the arts as they give us a sense of fulfillment and purpose to life. I have been studying the piano and cello at the age of five, with a passion for music performances. At the age of 16, I achieved the Associate, Licentiate and Fellowship Diploma of Trinity College of London. Through performing music, I have raised funds for the 'New Sight Concert' presented by New Sight Congo, a non-profit Eye Surgintre in the Republic of Congo.
As a part-time music teacher and piano accompanist, I tried to apply my passion for music education to my local community. In the past few months, I have partnered with Pok Oi Hospital Children and Families Development Centres to organize, promote and teach a series of arts and music interest classes to underprivileged children in Tin Shui Wai, and create booths and design activities to interact with families on Pok Oi Promotion Day.
In this year's XSEL program, I look forward to interacting with other participants and listen to their inspiring personal stories on how individuals can change the world. Moreover, I hope to gain some insights and ideas on how to bring music education to the modern age and reach a wider audience, and instill an appreciation for art and music in more people. If I had unlimited money, I would create a fund to support art and music performances, research and education to facilitate the discovery and exchange of new artistic ideas around the world.
