Naoto Kaname
Hello, everyone! I’m so excited to join this program in August and really looking forward to meeting everyone here! This is Naoto Kaname, please call me Naoto! I was born in Italy, and lived in Switzerland and Hong Kong for 5 years. Now I’m senior student of Keio University in Japan and I belong to faculty of law and department of political science, especially I study international political science. In addition, I learned Spanish a little bit in the university’s class. I hope that we could have fantastic time in Stanford!!
About social entrepreneurship, now I am interested in the social problem in Japan, like aging society, stricken areas hit by the big earthquake and many victims. The last year, I wanted to support and do something for such problems, so I did the several volunteering. For example, I did the volunteering in the nursing institution where my grandfather is staying to help the staff, also I did some support for the people who moved to Tokyo from Fukushima because of the earthquake. In Japan, it is said that those problems should be solved or taken some measures to improve them, but I think Japanese government are still not doing the effective and efficient step adequately. So I could do only some volunteering as a student, but I would like to be a person who can have a big impact on those problems in the future.
My hobby is to play ice hockey as you see in the photo! I started playing this sport when I was 13, so I’ve been playing it for 10 years. Now, I am a captain of the team “Keio White Bear” and we are practicing hard to be a champion of the 2014 tournament now. Also, I was selected for the team member of Chiba prefecture this year, so I would like to make every effort to win the Japan cup. If we have chance, I can teach you skating! Also I like listening to American pop music, like David Guetta, Jason Derulo, Pitbull, Taylor Swift and so on. Also I really like to go to concert. Let’s talk about it and please tell me your favorite music!
In this program, I would like to feel the great atmosphere of Stanford and talk and communicate a lot with all of you to share many ideas. Through this, I would like to develop my view point in looking at the world and find new perspective which could never be found if I just stay in Japan. Also, I really want to make friends with all of you taking part in this program and stimulate each other. Let’s talk a lot!
If I have unlimited money, I would like to invest to the stricken areas by the earthquake in Japan and help victims. Japanese government is saying that they are making effort to recover those places using national budget, but in fact the speed of recovering is slow. In the TV program focusing on the stricken areas, people are saying that they want to build their house or restart the restaurant but they cannot afford to do those things. So I would like to help them by using my unlimited money, and I think that would be good for Japanese economics and interests.
