To you, my future self
Dear XSEL-ers, are you ready for the last challenge? For 3 weeks you’ve been moving inward, looking at your past and present to reveal who you are today. And today, you’ll prepare for the future. You will write a letter to your future self one month from now.
You'll need:
Write freely. Tell yourself things that you never would. Feel free to include sketches or other visuals. Be kind, be authentic, keep going…
Your letter will journey with you through time!
Dear XSEL-ers, are you ready for the last challenge? For 3 weeks you’ve been moving inward, looking at your past and present to reveal who you are today. And today, you’ll prepare for the future. You will write a letter to your future self one month from now.
You'll need:
- a timer
- a pen, letter paper, and envelope
- a calendar that will let you block out space to do the activities
- a place you feel comfortable working
- Deep breath… How do you feel reading through this?
- When you are ready, take out your first page.
- List your feelings, date and time, and where you are.
- Now, set your for 20 minutes.
- Write: Dear <<Your Name>>,
- Write a letter to yourself one month from now (after the XSEL program)
- As you write (or draw), think about:
- What do you hope to get from this experience? What are you most excited about?
- What do you notice is distracting or worrying you? What might distract you during the program?
- What's happening right around you, in your life, in this moment?
- What else would you like to say to yourself in the future?
Write freely. Tell yourself things that you never would. Feel free to include sketches or other visuals. Be kind, be authentic, keep going…
- When you feel like you're done, place your letter into an envelope.
- Put your name and current address on the front.
- Take a picture and share it on our Facebook page.
- Last but not least, bring the letter to Stanford.
Your letter will journey with you through time!
