Tomohiro Koana
Hi guys, I’m Tomohiro, currently a sophomore at the University of Tokyo.
My major is not decided yet (I’ll be picking one this year). For now I’m studying a wide range of sciences such as chemistry, physics, and graphics science etc. But the subject of my most interest is computer science and mathematics. I’m planning to major in one of those fields. Related to computer science, I’ve been working for a relatively small tech company as a part-time software engineer almost for a year. Programming is great as you can make stuff with just your computer, and relatively easily. Establishing, say, an automobile company would require much more cost. That’s why there’ve been an enormous amount of companies involving IT technologies.
As for my personal interests, I often find myself reading, usually programming related stuff. Now I’m reading a book titled “On Intelligence” by Jeff Hawkins. The author firmly believe that if we understand the mechanism of our brain, we could build an intelligent machine as smart as we are. Our current computer is not intelligent. Even making a robot open a door, requires a lot of calculation like image processing, when we humans can open it without even thinking about it. It’s a pretty interesting book combining computer science and neuroscience.
If I had an unlimited amount of money, I would donate all of it to people who need money than I do. Back in old days, we used to exchange things with things until at some point money was invented to facilitate trades. So I think money is a tool like anything else. I wouldn’t need more than I do and I can earn as much as I need.
See you in August!
